Album review: Dune Rats – If It Sucks, Turn It Up
Aussie punk crew Dune Rats churn out bangers with wit and heart on stupidly fun fifth album, If It Sucks, Turn It Up…
Australian chart-toppers Dune Rats go wild on ace follow-up…
Following an album that hit Number One in the charts in their home country of Australia (2017’s The Kids Will Know It’s Bullshit), you’d forgive Dune Rats for feeling the pressure to repeat that success. However, listening to Hurry Up And Wait, it doesn’t sound like its creators even know what stress actually is. Rather, this collection of punk rippers is a joyful ode to youthful abandon.
Even when recent single Crazy deals with the subject of excess and over-indulgence, it does it in a manner that’s charming, catchy and teeming with life, rather than being a downer. Dune Rats prove there’s more to their songwriting chops than pure punk bangers, too, with the slower burn of gloriously-titled final track Mountains Come And Go But Aussie Pub Rock Lives On (Forever) bringing things to a boozy, sing-along close.
It’s a fun-packed, good-time brew, and if you’re looking to beat the January blues, Hurry Up And Wait’s party-starting fever is perfect.
Verdict: 4/5
