The Kerrang! Chart: The best new music this week
The ultimate new music countdown – every Friday!
Alice Cooper's Detroit Stories and Architects' For Those That Wish To Exist are battling it out in the UK charts this week.
Both Alice Cooper and Architects are sitting in the Top Five of the UK album charts this week, behind Maximo Park at Number One with Nature Always Wins.
Alice's Detroit Stories and Architects' For Those That Wish To Exist are second and third respectively, with only 2,500 chart sales separating the entire Top Five – making this a very tight battle at the moment. And both artists are not only smashing it in terms of their chart places, but the records themselves have some impressive stats tied to them: Detroit Stories is the week's best-selling CD so far, while For Those That Wish To Exist was the most downloaded LP over the weekend.

Speaking to Kerrang! last week about For Those That Wish To Exist and Architects' change in sound from 2018's Holy Hell, drummer and songwriter Dan Searle explained that, "Obviously we’re known as being a technical band, that’s our roots, but I felt we’d exhausted that to some degree, so started to feel drawn to doing more with less, which is a greater challenge in some ways."
"You can really ride the line between ‘Is this good, catchy and memorable?’ and My First Riff Ever,” added guitarist Josh Middleton. "Some of the biggest riffs in the world, if they’d just been one step the other way, wouldn’t have worked at all. It’s more challenging to write good, simple riffs than the more complicated stuff."
