It’s been a great start to the year for ALT BLK ERA: fresh from the release of their debut album, along with their first-ever Kerrang! cover, the pair have already won a MOBO Award.

Last night (Tuesday, February 18) the duo – Nyrobi and Chaya Beckett-Messam – were awarded Best Alternative Music Act at the 2025 MOBOs, coming up against Bob Vylan, Kid Bookie, Spider, Hak Baker and Native James in the category.

“A bold and fearless sound!” posted the MOBO account of the win. “Big congrats to @altblkera, winners of Best Alternative Music Act in association with @marshallamps. A duo breaking boundaries and making their mark! #MOBOAwards”

Speaking to K! ahead of the show, Nyrobi enthused of being in these sorts of spaces: “It feels really empowering to know that other people know the challenges that we face as sisters. And for disabled people to see that, ‘Oh my gosh, there’s a disabled person at the MOBO Awards. Oh, there’s a disabled person playing Download.’ So I think that it's good that I can empower the community as well.”

Congrats, ALT BLK ERA!

On the night, Nova Twins performed and you can watch a snippet of that below:
