Apple's virtual assistant Siri has answered the almost-impossible-to-pick question of, "What's the best My Chemical Romance album?"
While Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge – MCR's 2004 second album and major-label debut – catapulted the band into stardom, their 2006 full-length The Black Parade ultimately sent them stratospheric. As a result, it's long since been debated and discussed by fans and the Kerrang! office alike what the best of the two is (or, indeed, if that award actually goes to their 2002 debut I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love, or their final studio effort, 2010's Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys).
Well, according to Reddit, Siri seems to give that coveted honour to Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge – an album that celebrated its 15th anniversary this past June, and consequently returned to the charts for the first time in over a decade.
At the time of Three Cheers' release, frontman Gerard Way told Kerrang! of the thematic spine bonding the record’s ideas: “We all felt like outcasts. That’s what brought us together. We thrive on conflict, opposition… everything. I’ve always felt like that. At first it was us versus New York City. Then it felt like the band versus America. Now it’s us versus the world.
“This record is revenge for us,” he added, “on all the people that said we would never succeed. We thought we could get even for all the shit that’s happened to us in our lives. Revenge that could mean we could break out. Most of all, revenge on all the people who never believed in us. It led to this extreme confidence, where I felt like nothing could touch us. Nothing anyone said could hurt me when I was in this band.”
