Devin Townsend has announced a brand-new album, PowerNerd.
Due out on October 25 via InsideOutMusic, the record is being previewed in advance today by the exhilarating title-track – which features a guest spot from Hatebreed’s Jamey Jasta.
Speaking about the LP as a whole – which is named after ‘A person of any gender who has, through tenacity and perseverance, turned what society may deem as a ‘weakness’ into a superpower’ – Devin reveals that the music was written in 11 days (though the lyrics of course took longer to perfect).
“It was a conscious thing,” he admits. “I thought, ‘I’ve spent so much time overthinking every aspect of my work – what would happen if I didn’t?’ Maybe I would have the opportunity to be a bit more direct with what it is that I’m trying to do. I really wanted to see if I could cut through some of the meandering.”
