You'd have to assume that, out of everyone in the rock world, Dave Grohl's phonebook is probably one of the longest. It's understandable, then, that when it came time for him to ring up a producer to work on Foo Fighters' One By One album… well, he called the wrong guy.

The hilarious mix-up was detailed in a new interview with Apple Music's Zane Lowe (watch it below), with drummer Taylor Hawkins telling the story of the album's creation and how Foos' frontman "accidentally called the wrong Nick".

You see, Dave actually had Queens Of The Stone Age's Nick Oliveri in mind for the job, having just worked with him on their 2002 album Songs For The Deaf. Instead, though, he phoned Nick Raskulinecz (who is now a genuine titan of production).

"I meant to call Nick Oliveri, who was the bass player of Queens Of The Stone Age, and my friend Nick Raskulinecz answered," explains Dave. "I knew him from Sound City, he's a great engineer. He had worked at that studio for years…"

"Dave accidentally called the wrong Nick," laughs Taylor. "Nick Raskulinecz showed up and that guy who produced it and he just was a great cheerleader for us, you know? And, he really was enthusiastic about us."

When asked by Zane if, rather than admitting this faux pas they just rolled with it, Taylor jokes, "Exactly, yes! That's exactly what happened."

"This is how we work, dude!" adds Dave.

Amazing.
