Future Black Sabbath reunion shows are absolutely off the table, says Geezer Butler.

After Ozzy Osbourne stated back in September that he doesn't have "any of the slightest interest" in reuniting Black Sabbath for live performances, Geezer Butler has also now made his stance clear: the band won't do it.

Speaking to Eon Music, the bassist/lyricist not only said that there will "definitely be no more Sabbath – it's done", he also suggested that his Deadland Ritual supergroup might well be over, too.

"We had an album worth of songs to record, then COVID struck, which put an end to recording, so I’m not sure if Deadland Ritual will ever carry on," Geezer admitted, before adding, "There will definitely be no more Sabbath – it’s done."

He has, however, started work on a completely different project. “I’m currently putting together a book about growing up in Aston, Birmingham and how Sabbath came about…” he told Wall Of Sound last month, “but I’m really enjoying semi-retirement and not having to do anything or be anywhere, especially after being away from home for most of the last 50 years.”

Last week, Geezer added to Kerrang!: “I’m quite a private person as you know, so it’s quite a challenge really. But it has been fun looking back and thinking back to the early days.”

In early 2019, speaking to Kerrang! about Black Sabbath’s final tour and why he “didn’t really enjoy it”, Ozzy explained, “I didn’t like the fact that [original Sabbath drummer] Bill Ward wasn’t there, for a start. People put that down to me, but it wasn’t me, honestly. We [Sabbath] didn’t have the fucking time to hang around, we had to get going, but I’m sorry it didn’t work out with Bill. Tommy [Clufetos, Ozzy’s drummer, who played with Sabbath on their farewell tour] did great, but the four of us started this, and it should have been the four of us ending it. Those final gigs in Birmingham were bittersweet because you think of how far we came, and how much we did, and it would have been good to have shared that together.”
