The Kerrang! Chart: The best new music this week
The ultimate new music countdown – every Friday!
Tyler Joseph of twenty one pilots has unveiled an official rendition of Switchfoot’s Twenty-Four, as part of the band’s The Beautiful Letdown deluxe release.
twenty one pilots may have trolled us all with ‘new’ music earlier this year, but for those who do want something you can actually hear, Tyler Joseph is on Switchfoot’s new The Beautiful Letdown deluxe edition album.
The singer has covered the 2003 record’s beautiful Twenty-Four, and done a stunningly faithful rendition. It arrives shortly after Switchfoot’s Jon Foreman took to social media to cover Stressed Out, and share the story of first meeting twenty one pilots, which was “after an outdoor show that we played with them during a blizzard in Philadelphia”.
“Funny: playing outside in a blizzard wasn’t nearly as memorable as watching them perform live for the first time,” Jon wrote. “From that moment on, I’ve been a fan – cheering them on from the West Coast, hearing their idiosyncratic tunes take over the radio waves of stations around the world.
“Can’t wait for you to hear Tyler Joseph’s take on our tune Twenty-Four later this week – All love and respect to Tyler and Josh, long live twenty one pilots.”
Speaking about the new deluxe edition as a whole – which features everyone from the Jonas Brothers to Owl City – Switchfoot say: “We’re beyond grateful and humbled that all of these incredible artists took these songs and made them their own. Listen now wherever you get your music!”
