Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt are getting set to launch a new coffee company, Oakland Coffee Works.
According to the Financial Times, the Berkeley punks’ frontman and bassist have teamed up with UrthPact and UltraFlex for their new venture, and will reportedly be the first to use mass-produced compostable bags and pods – made out of starches and sugars.
“I’ve been drinking coffee all these years, I looked at the coffee bags and realised they’re all landfill,” Mike told the FT. “It was astonishing to me. I hope that the big companies out there step up to the plate too.”
Oakland Coffee Works’ bags are available now, while the coffee pods themselves are expected to be available in January.
