See Mike Shinoda and Emily Armstrong accepting their trophy from the Official Charts to celebrate Linkin Park’s new album From Zero hitting Number One.
Could it be? Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley has revealed he’ll be making an announcement this Wednesday – the same day that Linkin Park’s recent mysterious countdown finishes…
Updated story: Deryck says: “Despite popular belief, I am not joining Oasis… or Linkin Park.”
Original story: Deryck Whibley has announced… that he has an announcement coming!
The Sum 41 frontman will be revealing something this Wednesday, August 28 – the same time that Linkin Park’s recent cryptic countdown ends. Could it be?
Many fans are already putting two and two together, with Sum 41 of course wrapping up their epic career with a farewell tour that ends in January 2025, leaving Deryck with a free calendar from then.
And it’s long been rumoured that Linkin Park will be going on a reunion tour at some point, having been on hiatus since the loss of Chester Bennington in 2017.
At the end of April, Billboard reported that Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson and Dave Farrell had been “mulling a possible 2025 reunion tour and are considering hiring a female vocalist to succeed late lead singer Chester Bennington”, with booking agency WME “taking offers for a potential Linkin Park tour”.
Of course, that particular rumour might not quite be accurate given that it’s not a female vocalist, but Deryck joined Mike onstage at Reading Festival 2018 to perform Faint – so he’s already got some experience with the band. Watch that video below:
