Tenacious D are possibly back from hiatus, having contributed a previously-unreleased cover to the new Good Music To Lift Los Angeles charity compilation album, which is out now for one day only (February 7).

The band – Jack Black and Kyle Gass – have covered REO Speedwagon’s 1980 ballad Keep On Loving You for the record, which was all put together by Good Music and is benefitting the LA Regional Food Bank and California Community Foundation’s Wildfire Fund.

The ’D join a star-studded (and very long) tracklist including Chelsea Wolfe, PUP, Militarie Gun, R.E.M, My Morning Jacket, Mudhoney, K.Flay, Death Cab For Cutie and The Postal Service, Soccer Mommy, Spiritual Cramp and more.

As per the album’s Bandcamp, the whole thing is “made up entirely of previously unreleased recordings from some of the most inspiring names in music today. The album features never-before-heard new songs, covers, remixes, live versions, and unreleased demos donated from incredible artists across many genres and sizes. The collection is available exclusively for 24 hours only via Bandcamp Friday, February 7.”

So it’s not clear whether this is a brand-new cover from Tenacious D and they’re officially back from their break, or if it’s actually just one from the vaults and they’ll continue with the hiatus.

Announcing their hiatus last summer following Kyle’s apparent onstage joke about the Trump assassination attempt, Jack wrote at the time: “I was blindsided by what was said at the show on Sunday. I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form.

“After much reflection, I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold. I am grateful to the fans for their support and understanding.”
