Dee Snider has backed the petition for AC/DC to play the Super Bowl halftime show next year
Just days after Shakira and Jennifer Lopez brought the house down with a bombastic halftime show at this year's Super Bowl, a petition has been launched to get some "real metal" for next year's NFL spectacular in the form of AC/DC.
"It’s been a while since we’ve had some real metal play the halftime show for the Super Bowl," says petition founder Gina Dilecce. "Don’t get me wrong, all music artists have done a great job and should play the show, but we all need a turn.
"It’s time for some rock and roll! And who better than AC/DC to play?! They are coming back together, making a new album and possibly touring again. This would be perfect! Come together, metal heads, and get this going!"

The petition, which has just over 1500 signatures at the time of writing, has caught the attention of Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider, who posted a video on Instagram directed toward NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
“There are a lot of bands that are stadium worthy and a lot of bands that have sold hundreds of millions of records, but the one band that I think has such crossover appeal to so many people in all genres is AC/DC," said Dee.
“You play so many of their songs at every single game – and the band is reuniting with a new album, they’re going to be touring again and they would bring down the house.”
Last year, Dee claimed that AC/DC have reunited with singer Brian Johnson, and are planning to write a new album using guitar parts by the late Malcom Young.
“I’m focused on one band for the 2021 Superbowl half time show: AC/DC!” tweeted Dee. “Reuniting with new album next year, touring, celebrating 50 years together!” He then went on to tweet, “All four surviving members have reunited WITH tracks recorded by Malcolm while he was still alive. Malcolm’s nephew Stevie Young is replacing him (he’s done this a couple of times before). It’s as close as you can get to the original band.”
There has so far been no official word from AC/DC on the matter of a reunion or new album.
