Green Day announce free LA show, where they’ll be filming their movie New Years Rev
Green Day will be playing a free date at The Palladium next week – and you can be there as an extra in the band’s new film…
See Billie Joe Armstrong read out a Mark Wahlberg-inspired speech at the 2025 iHeartRadio Music Awards as Green Day accepted Alternative Artist Of The Year.
Green Day have taken to social media to confirm that, in case it went over anyone’s heads at the time, their recent 2025 iHeartRadio Music Awards acceptance speech was just a Boogie Nights parody.
The punk rock legends went up onstage at Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre to accept Alternative Artist Of The Year on Monday night (March 17), with frontman Billie Joe Armstrong pulling out some cards and beginning, “Wow, I don’t know what to say…”
As his bandmates Tré Cool and Mike Dirnt laughed along throughout, Billie Joe continued that, “I guess the only thing I can say is, I’ll keep rocking and rolling to keep making music and better songs. You know it seems we make these records and sometimes they’re considered filthy by some people. But I don’t think that’s true. This music we make can make people feel better. They can help, they really can, and I really believe that. So we can always do better, so I’m going to keep trying if you guys keep trying. Let’s keep rocking and rolling.”
Watching along in the crowd it looks like Linkin Park got the joke, but Green Day later went on to share a side-by-side comparison of their speech and Dirk Diggler’s (played by Mark Wahlberg) in Boogie Nights, which you can see below:
